Notes

The Prescott meet: On the down side: The vault went so long Will didn’t get to jump. And then there was the wind…strong and swirling.  PR’s were affected but most of the vaulters handled the wind and learned how to vault under less than perfect circumstances.  This will payoff in the long run.  As far as competition:  only the wind.  Youngker and Prescott didn’t have much.  Prescott’s girl is a threat but she came in second to Kat at 8-6.  So…Estefani, Amy and Crystal; you had to deal with a minimum height of 6-6. Considering the quality of Prescott’s vaulters, you would think they would buy extensions.  You all tried.  Crystal, you were the closest.  At least this week we are on home ground.  Ana, 7-0 was great considering the conditions. You need to work on the rock back now.  Shonna: The cold really got to you.  We all understand that. This week is will be warm and you can fly with a strong push at the plant.  Bree: You did great and your form is really coming along.  Nice job in cold weather.  Now move up that pole.  Alyssa: Cold and windy.  I was amazed you could do anything feeling like that.  Your form is getting better now that you are pushing at the plant and getting the pole down early.  Kat: Your attitude was perfect.  You were confident and didn’t let the cold weather get to you.  That’s why you won.  Bigger poles now.  Will: All the way to Prescott for what…nothing.  That really sucks.  I am amazed at how comfortable you are vaulting on anything…even the metal pole.  We need to work on the top part and also work on full vaults.  You are one of the best ever…but now the hard work begins to stay there.  Tyler Cone and Brad: Sorry you had to rush into vaulting after the end of the meet.  However, very proud of how you handled it.  You didn’t let it stop you from trying and both of you had good form considering the conditions.  Tyler I need to see you doing full vaults and working on the top.  Brad: You need to work more on the top and you did in practice.  Your vault looked amazing.  As you said Tyler Latier, you had the best no height ever.  Your form is quickly coming together.  3 step 10-0 in practice is a good clue to it.  Now stay healthy.  Framarz: You found out what it is like to be a vaulter at the end of a meet.  That’s pretty cool isn’t it? You have worked very hard and things are coming together.  Now rock back to vertical before you turn and look out world.  Brendan:  Cold yes and windy yes…but you hung in there.  Your run is amazing…very fast.  You need more work on the rock back.  Don’t be too discouraged.  You have to leave practice early for other commitments so you can’t expect the world.  But be patient it will come.  Gary: With your strength and speed you should be one of the best…just lack of practice time to get that technique down.  So…We will do what we can do.   Michael:  You had a great meet.  You are starting to get it and pushing at the plant.  Just need you practicing more to get you to a higher level.  Jeff:  That run of yours will make you a very high vaulter.  When You learn how to channel that energy into the jump (the pole) you will fly high and be on big poles.  As you know each practice you are getting better.

Hal Anders Memorial is at Apollo this Saturday.  It is an invitational.  Entries are due Monday.  Coach Raper is trying to get them to allow three entries per event…currently it is two.  So…there are 2 ways of thinking.  One is to put your best athletes in the event to win.  The other is to put athletes in that might have a chance to qualify but aren’t quite there yet.  So…I will consult Coach Anderson and Coach Raper.  Raper has the most pull here.  He will tell me if we are out to win or not.  If winning is everything then: Kat and Alyssa.  If a third person can go we will have to decide who is better at the moment between Bree, Ana and Shonna. If qualifying is the main goal then… It will take an 8-6 vault to get to state.  So…If it looks like Bree or Ana or Shonna can get that then they will be considered for the invitational.   Boys:  Will should go because he missed out on the Prescott meet.  If winning is everything, then Matt will be number 2.  If a third is allowed then it would be one of the two Tylers and Brad…who ever looks good on Monday.  If qualifying is the name of the game….it will take a 12-6 vault to get to state.  Will and Matt have already qualified so…Tyler Cone has the highest vault with a 12 and then Tyler L. or Brad would go depending on Monday.
