Russia and Azerbaijan weigh up joint 2018 Summer Youth Olympics bid

October 24 – A joint Russia-Azerbaijan bid to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 could be launched, the vice-president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has claimed.

According to the RIA Novosti news agency, Akhmed Bilalov claimed that the Games would be a good boost for the region of Dagestan, which with Azerbaijan are looking to develop their tourist and recreational potential

Gold Coast and Hambantota would both stage great Commonwealth Games claims Fennell

 President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), claimed he would be happy to see the 2018 Commonwealth Games go to either Australia’s Gold Coast or Hambantota in Sri Lanka because he feels both bidding candidates could host an exceptional competition.

Delegates from the 71 Commonwealth nations and territories will gather to cast one vote each at the CGF General Assembly on November 11 in St Kitts and Nevis to determine which of the two cities will host of the 2018 Commonwealth Games

NCAA president supports proposal to let conferences OK $2,000 payments to student athletes

WASHINGTON — NCAA President Mark Emmert backed a proposal to allow conferences to increase grants to student athletes by $2,000, “to more closely approach” the full cost of attending college, beyond the athletic scholarships athletes receive for tuition, fees, room, board and books.
