AUSTIN, Texas – Clearing a career-best 18’0½”, junior Cale Simmons matched the Academy pole vault record as the track and field team wrapped up competition at the 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday, March 31, in Austin, Texas.
Matching the best clearance of the day in the “A” section, Simmons improved his outdoor-best distance nearly three inches to 18’0½”. He becomes just the second Falcon to clear an 18-foot bar in outdoor action, joining former standoutPaul Gensic, who first accomplished the feat in 2004. With his clearance, Simmons now owns a share of both the indoor and outdoor Academy records in the pole vault.
