ABILENE — Saginaw Boswell junior Lakan Taylor won the Class 4A Region I pole vault Friday at Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Stadium, and made her intentions known about winning state in two weeks.
In setting a personal best by clearing 13 feet on her third and final attempt, Taylor also beat defending 4A state champion Annie Rhodes of Waco Midway, who was second Friday at 12-6.
View photos”It was so much adrenaline on that last run,” said Taylor, who also beat Rhodes at the Texas Relays last month — 12-9.25 to 12-5.5. “I was getting kind of worn out, but I knew I didn’t want that second place. I wanted first.”
She missed three attempts at 13-3, but Boswell coach Curtis Lamle said Taylor has topped 13-3 in practice.
