UK — TILLY HOOPER set a championship best performance when winning the pole vault at the South of England Championships. The 3.51-metre clearance was a personal best for the 14-year-old Reigate Grammar School pupil, who lives in Merstham with her mother. Hooper, daughter of former Olympic pole vaulter Brian – who set 25 British records – won the competition at 3.20m. But she continued to raise the bar by increments of at least 10cm at a time in pursuit of a personal best and, as it turned out, the event record. Her performance left her third on the all-time UK rankings for her age-group and leading this year’s rankings by 17cm. more
